Nest location guide

A wasp nest in the eaves and soffits

Wasps repeatedly entering a fascia corner or the soffit-to-wall junction are using a sheltered roof void. We target that opening from the ground, not the middle of the board, and leave the roof trim intact.

One message and a technician confirms the price and a time to visit.

Wasps at a nest entrance under a soffit

What should I do about a nest in the eaves and soffits?

  • Do not foam or caulk the occupied corner
  • Stop gutter cleaning and fascia painting
  • Avoid standing beneath the flight entrance

How is this nest treated?

From a clear ground position, our telescopic dust lance reaches the active fascia or soffit corner. Dust applied into the opening is carried back by workers to the nest behind the roof edge.

How long does treatment take to work?

Eaves nests typically go quiet in 2–3 hours and become fully inactive within 24 hours after treatment. Leave the roof corner open until activity has stopped.

Why fascia corners become nest entrances

Small separations where a fascia ends, where a soffit meets brickwork or where two roof sections join give a queen access to the enclosed roof edge. The colony may remain in the soffit box or expand into the loft beyond it.

Replacement plastic boards can conceal older gaps rather than eliminate them. A neat-looking roofline therefore does not rule out a nest, and the paper nest need not be visible from the pavement.

Spot the exact roofline opening

Look for wasps that land, crawl into a single joint and emerge from the same point. Insects spread along a gutter may be collecting water; concentrated traffic into one corner is the useful warning sign.

Describe the corner relative to a door, downpipe or window, and send a photo from below if you can take it without entering the flight path. Do not lean out of an upstairs window for a closer angle.

Leave occupied boards and gutters alone

Pulling a soffit panel down can expose the colony directly above your head. Pressure-washing, sanding and tapping fascia boards also transmit disturbance into the nest, even though the paper shell remains hidden.

Sealant over an active entrance can push insects into another part of the roof or towards rooms indoors. Use a different doorway when the flight line crosses the main entrance, and postpone the roofline work.

Ground-level treatment of the active corner

We check the insect and identify the joint receiving the returning workers. The technician then places insecticidal dust through that route with a long telescopic lance, standing on the ground with a clear line to the opening.

Treatment works through the workers’ route into the colony; it does not require stripping out the soffit. Tell us about a conservatory, canopy or narrow passage below the target so we can assess the approach before arriving.

Activity during the first day

The usual result is a quiet roof entrance within 2–3 hours, followed by complete inactivity within 24 hours. A few returning workers soon after the visit do not mean the treatment has failed.

Keep gutter tools and painting work away from the affected area during the settling period. If the same corner still has repeated nest traffic the next day, contact us to arrange the free revisit.

Does the soffit need dismantling afterwards?

Not for routine wasp control: an empty nest behind the boards is not reused by a later colony. Removing sound trim merely to retrieve paper creates avoidable roofing work.

Once inactivity is established, repair the failed corner joint and any rotten timber. Keep purpose-made soffit vents working; filling ventilation slots with foam exchanges an insect problem for a roof ventilation problem.

Frequently asked questions

Is a nest behind new fascia possible?

Yes: concealed joints at the ends of replacement boards can still lead into the original roof void.

Should I ask the gutter cleaner to continue?

Cancel work along the occupied roof edge until treatment has settled and the entrance is inactive.

Can you reach a soffit above a conservatory?

Send a ground-level view showing both the target corner and the roof below it; the obstruction determines whether the lance can be positioned safely.
