Nest location guide

A wasp nest in the conservatory and bay roofs

Wasps can enter beneath bay-roof flashing or through a conservatory trim joint and nest in the enclosed space. Leave glazing bars and roof panels untouched: we follow the external entrance rather than dismantling the roof.

One message and a technician confirms the price and a time to visit.

Conservatory roof trim and bay window roof

What should I do about a nest in the conservatory and bay roofs?

  • Do not lift flashing or remove glazing trim
  • Never stand or climb on the conservatory roof
  • Pause roof washing and keep the occupied junction unsealed

How is this nest treated?

We identify the roof-to-wall or trim opening used by workers and apply suitable dust treatment into that route. A telescopic lance approaches from the ground without loading the glazing or removing roof panels.

How long does treatment take to work?

Bay-roof and conservatory colonies typically go quiet in 2–3 hours, with full inactivity within 24 hours. Leave cleaning and trim repairs until the flight line has stopped.

Gaps at flashing and roof trim

A bay canopy has a small enclosed void despite appearing solid from below. Failed flashing or a gap against the main wall can admit a queen, with the colony spreading sideways beneath the covering.

On a conservatory, joints around wall plates and roof trim can provide access to sheltered spaces. Wasps trapped against the glazing may simply have entered through an open door, so establish an outside entrance before assuming a roof nest.

Reading the flight line around a glazed roof

Look for regular entry into one glazing-bar end, wall junction or flashing corner. Insects moving across the roof without disappearing into it are not enough to identify a colony.

Describe whether the opening sits above a door, next to an upstairs window or beyond another extension. A photograph taken from the patio can show both the entrance and the surface beneath it without anyone stepping onto the roof.

Why dismantling trim is risky

Lifting a cap or roof panel can open the nest towards your face and damage weather seals at the same time. Glass and polycarbonate roofing are not safe working platforms for investigating insects.

Pressure-washing at the junction can disturb the colony and drive water into the building. Leave failed seals temporarily alone while the insects are active; sealing their route prematurely may create a different exit into the extension.

Treatment without pressure on the glazing

The technician traces the external access route, confirms the species and checks that a safe application can be made around the roof materials. Insecticidal dust is directed into the workers’ opening with a telescopic lance from ground level.

We do not balance equipment on the roof or remove trim to make a new entrance. Mention recent installation, leaks and any roof warranty restrictions so existing defects are considered before work starts.

A quiet roof junction within the first day

Most treated bay or conservatory nests settle in 2–3 hours and become fully inactive within 24 hours. Keep the affected door or window area clear while foragers return during the first hours.

Wait until traffic has ended before using that part of the patio or booking roof cleaners back in. Repeated entry at the treated joint after 24 hours warrants contacting us for the included free revisit.

Whether the roof void needs opening later

An empty nest can normally remain beneath a bay covering or behind conservatory trim. New colonies do not reuse its paper, so dismantling a watertight roof solely for nest removal is unnecessary.

After confirmed inactivity, have a suitable contractor repair failed flashing and seals. Preserve designed drainage channels and ventilation; filling glazing-bar channels indiscriminately can trap water and create leaks next season.

Frequently asked questions

Does a wasp inside the conservatory prove there is a nest?

An isolated insect against the glass may have flown through a door; regular outside entry into a roof joint is stronger evidence.

Will you remove the roof panels?

The normal approach treats the existing flight entrance from below and leaves the roof assembly intact.

When can the installer repair the leaking junction?

Arrange the repair after the treated colony has stopped using the opening and the roof can be worked on without disturbing live workers.
